Training Philosophy

My training philosophy has always been that karate is something to weave into your life. The priorities are always going to be Family, then Work, then Karate. We make progress through the art by making sure we do “a little bit, often”. While there is a time and place for marathon training sessions, I believe the most progress comes from steady engagement with the art over the long term.

Martial arts training should also be for use outside the dojo – but not for fighting in the street or the ring. Rather, the training should empower students to control the course of their lives; not to drift. Karate reminds us that a good life takes a certain discipline and it provides a mirror karate practitioners use to face themselves.

True karate training should help you understand yourself and help you gain control over the one thing in this world we all have control over: ourselves.
